a new phone
There are three new phones I want. Since only two of them come on the superior Verizon network, I guess I'd accept the third on Sprint. my favorite is the iPhone 4s (starting at $199- apple.com). The battery lasts longer than any Android phone's, it never crashes, there are 500,000 apps, and the Siri speech-recognition is shockingly good and intuitive. For typing e-mails, however, I'd rather have the BlackBerry Bold 9930 ($300- blackberry.com). It's the best BlackBerry to date. A portrait keyboard is much better than those ergonomically uncomfortable sliders. While the touch screen is on the small side, the Bold finally uses a decent browser, even if it's still not as good as the ones on the iPhone or any of the Androids. Finally, for watching movies or browsing the Web a lot, nothing

transformers: dark of the moon
Talk about "transforming." Michael Bay tested the patience of even the most devoted Transformers fan with the second installment of the franchise, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but the hyperactive director bounces back in energetic form with number three, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. From the long opening sequence (a zany alternate-history reading of the NASA moon program, complete with cameos by John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon) through the predictably extended action climax, Bay is actually on his best behavior. Sure, his taste is as vulgar as ever (is introducing your leading lady via a lingering butt shot part of the director's personal signature?), but the story line is streamlined and the action is coherent: the constant chop-chop of the fighting sequences in Re
